CORE4MODEL

The Core4 Model reflects four kinds of leader behaviour:

Structuring Tasks

Leaders structure the work by specifying tasks and clarifying how targets can be achieved.

Providing Constructive Feedback

Leaders provide feedback that is valuable and useful for their co-workers.

Bonding People

Leaders bond their people by including them into the team, by stimulating collaboration within the team and appreciating everybody’s contribution.

Inspiring a Vision

Leaders convey an inspiring vision of the future, create a collective sense of mission and give people the feeling that their work is contributing to an overall purpose.

The link between the Core4 dimensions of leader behaviour

The Core4 dimensions of leader behaviour together form an organic unity. Because effective leaders not only structure the work, but also monitor whether people do what they are supposed to do and correct them if necessary. This, of course, will be even more effective if they stimulate a good working-climate within the organisation. Moreover, cooperation between people will be very much enhanced when leaders create a collective sense of mission.

Self-Leadership

Obviously, self-leadership starts with us. We all need a certain system or structure in what we do, if we want to perform well. Also, for making sensible decisions, it is important to know what we will and will not do. Next, it’s crucial to build and maintain relationships with other people. And finally, to be successful we need a purpose that is worth striving for. We may not be a supervisor, a manager or CEO, yet the insights provided by the Core4 model can help us to improve our self-leadership and our capability to meet new requirements in this constantly changing world.

Effects on co-workers

Our research  shows that the Core4 leader behaviours are related to desired employee attitudes like organisational commitment and job satisfaction. These leadership dimensions also promote role clarity, group cohesion, leader effectiveness, interactional justice and extra effort.
